ABOUT ME

How I came to leave my job in the business world and decided to become an English Language Mentor?
It might have been to the disappointment of my Father that I decided to study English. Fathers tend to dream of their daughters becoming a doctor, a lawyer, a successful manager in a leading company; studying a language does not really sound promising to someone of my Father’s generation.
At the university, I studied English Language and Literature at the Faculty of Linguistics and Pedagogy. The English language had enchanted me long before I came to realize that it was more than just a well mastered foreign language to me.
Now that I have made the decision to pursue my dream and become an English Language Mentor, I recall my professor’s words: “You are a born teacher. You should be always engaged in teaching”.
While debating with my professor about the challenges of the teaching profession, at the time, I would have never believed that this noble profession could become my passion in life.
To teach English my way happened to be the vocation my inside voice was luring me to pursue causing me many restless days and nights and making me eventually leave my job. Years ago, I gave up teaching to work in business and then years later, I gave up a promising career in business to become a language mentor. I guess the whole story is about having passion for what we are doing. Once we lose it, we cannot go on. Funny, isn’t it? I mean it is funny that sometimes it takes us years to discover the real passion inside all of us. Maybe, that is what happens if we
“stay hungry, stay foolish.”

After quitting my job I enrolled into a 2-year course entitled Psychological Counseling and Personal Coaching at the largest correspondence institute in Germany, ILS Hamburg. Individual teaching inevitably involves basic knowledge of psychology.
While teaching, I came to realize that I was not only teaching my students but also mentoring them. They say a good teacher teaches the students to learn, becomes their partner on their journey of acquiring knowledge and improving their overall skills. As Brad Henry, an American lawyer and politician, said: “A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning”.
Another thing I have come to realize is that I can offer my students (especially those in business) the benefit of efficient fusion of my language skills and skills acquired while being a business manager. Please see my professional profile on Linkedin.
